Riviera Casino, Las Vegas, wood VIP gift game box with clay poker chips
For the collectors of Las Vegas Gambling history, this is a unique item. I had only found one other one on the Internet. This is a wood game box given to VIP guests by the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The Riviera Hotel and Casino first opened on April 20, 1955. It was the Las Vegas Strips first high-rise hotel and casino with 9 floors and was the 9th casino to open on the Las Vegas Strip. The Riviera was the location of many iconic entertainers during the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. The casino was closed on May 4, 2015 and ultimately demolished. This wood box is felt lined on the inside, has several compartments for storage and a metal plaque, gold in color, stating, Riviera of Las Vegas. The box top has an elaborate design engraved into it along with a metal plate on which is displayed the letter “R” inside an unique design. The front of the box has a drawer at the bottom of the box with two knobs to open the drawer. The drawer is also used for storage of game parts. See pictures 4 and 5. In the top of the box there is a removable tray used for storing poker chips and other game components. The poker chips with this set are clay poker chips. There are 47 blue chips, 200 white chips and 151 red chips. There is a deck of cards from the Riviera (opened) and four dice, two green and two white, possibly used for Backgammon. There is also a close up look at the poker chips and their design. See pictures 6 and 7. There are two unopened decks of cards from the Riviera and one opened deck of poker cards from the Riviera along with an opened but appears to be unused deck of cards from the Riviera Comedy Club. See pictures 8 and 9. There are three game rule books included in this set. One is for Backgammon and two are for different versions of Rumi Tile games. These are in very good condition and from the age of them, these appear to be from the 1960s or 1970s. This game originally came with the poker chips, shown above, and the Rumi Tile game. The stands for the game fit inside the box top storage area, along with the braces for the stands. All 106 of the Rumi Game tiles are with the game and in good condition. The tiles are stamped Rumiblo Made in Korea. This dates the set to the 1970s from what I can find out. While the poker chips and the Rumi Tile game are original to the box, the Backgammon set that was originally with the game is no longer there. Missing is the game board, the Backgammon moving pieces and the Doubling Cube for the game. Also missing from the game is the original red see through dice stamped, Riviera. Even with the missing pieces, this is a unique set and overall it is in great condition. Please look at the pictures to see the gift box, it’s components and overall condition as the pictures are part of the description.
