I believe the wood is mahogany and quite sturdy. The hood fits perfectly over the carousel; dark stain with character marks outside; beautiful grain inside; rub down with some Howard’s and make it POP. The carousel shows lots of use marks, slight wear, especially where the poker chips have been pulled out/slid back in over the years. I’ve counted 170 + chips as follows: “RAMS HEAD”, both sides of chip, clay; 24 cream color, 30 maroon color, 17 blue color: LADY HEAD bust “Luck Be The Lady”? , both sides of chip, clay. 10 maroon color, 14 blue color, 13 cream color; 13 blue clay, 9 maroon clay, 14 cream clay; 22 EARTHTONE BAKELITE (translucent, marble-ish); 8 RED BAKELITE (translucent, marble-ish). The bakelite chips could easily be re-purposed as jewelry, etc. Each chip approximately 1 1/2 diameter. 1 1/8″ tall x 2 7/8″ brass handle. The carousel with hood on, excluding handle, measures 5″ tall x 8 3/4″ diameter, weighs about 6 lbs. Collect, use, display, re-purpose, or GIFT.
